down the road
just past the darkest corner
shyly stands
the owner's pub
inside
the customers
proudly fights, laughs
fights back
cries out in pain as he steps on the broken glass
swears ungodly words at anyone who cares to hears
boasts of his love affair with that shop girl
and asks for more drink
before he goes back home
whistling a happy song of his youth
the owner's pub
shyly stands
holding all this
up the road
just past the holy church
proudly stands
the rich man's house
inside
the wife
stifles a cry as she reads
her husband's secret affair with the maid
and then secretly calls the doctor
to make sure that the maid does not deliver
and later
gulps down a cup of poison
the same doctor brings her back to life
the husband asks the maid to go away
calling her too candid to be anyone's maid
the maid goes away before the sun and
the wife rises
the wife wakes up next day
as if nothing has happened
and goes to the park to gossip about her neighbour's cat
only her handkerchief mysteriously remains wet
the rich man's house
proudly stands
holding all this
just past the darkest corner
shyly stands
the owner's pub
inside
the customers
proudly fights, laughs
fights back
cries out in pain as he steps on the broken glass
