in this city

i do not dream of you

i meet you

share my coffee,

and an evening with you

but no,

i do not dream of you in this city

but often

my soul travels to another world

another city, same place as this

there

we do not like coffee

we just meet in the evening

and share our souls with each other

in that city, same as this

one fine day
we would disagree
to everything we had already agreed upon

the smiles would not be such happy things
we would see the layers of sadness within them
the tears too would not be such a disaster
we would know, we were only hoping for things to be better...hence the tears

we would agree
nothing had been worthwhile
and yet, everything a treasure

alzheimer's disease

now
i remember
only those jokes of yours
that could never make any of us laugh

how we ranted about them then
how we tried to escape them then
how we tried to escape them !

now all other memories have escaped
only they remain
as a cruel joke

i tell them to you now
and you burst out laughing - you are a kind soul
i know - now you donot remember them to be your own jokes

i too burst out laughing
because
its funny to see you laughing at your own jokes
you think i laugh because of alzheimer's disease
no dear, i am laughing at you

do you remember?
you always used to laugh at your own jokes
while we tried to escape them
how we tried to escape them !

now all other memories have escaped
only these jokes remain
as a cruel joke
